My Testimony: The Night I Received the Holy Spirit

This is a composite testimony representing the experiences many believers have had when receiving the baptism in the Holy Spirit.

Searching the Scriptures

I began studying the book of Acts. I couldn't deny what I read:

• In Acts 2, the believers spoke in tongues when the Spirit came
• In Acts 10, Cornelius's household spoke in tongues
• In Acts 19, the Ephesian believers spoke in tongues when Paul laid hands on them

The pattern was clear. This experience was real and available.

The Altar Call

One Sunday night, the pastor invited those seeking the baptism in the Holy Spirit to come forward. My heart was pounding. Part of me felt unworthy. Part of me was afraid nothing would happen.

But the hunger was greater than the fear.

I went forward. People gathered around to pray with me. They encouraged me to seek God, to lift my hands, to let go of control.

The Encounter

I don't know how long I stood there. Time seemed to stop. As I worshipped, something began to change. I felt a warmth spreading through my body—starting in my chest and moving outward.

My lips began to tremble. Strange syllables started forming in my mouth. At first, I held back, wondering if I was making it up.

But then—a release. Words I had never learned flowed from my mouth. It wasn't me; it was the Spirit speaking through me. Joy flooded my soul. I wept and laughed at the same time.

I had received.

The Transformation

That night changed everything. Not that I became perfect—far from it. But something was different:

A new power in prayer. When I prayed now, there was an authority and effectiveness I hadn't known before.

A deeper hunger for Scripture. The Bible came alive in new ways. The Spirit was teaching me.

Boldness to witness. Fear of sharing my faith was replaced by a holy courage.

Spiritual sensitivity. I began to sense the Spirit's leading in daily life—promptings, impressions, guidance.

A prayer language. Praying in tongues became a daily source of strength and edification.

To Those Still Seeking

If you're hungry for more of God, don't give up. Jesus said, "How much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!" (Luke 11:13).

Keep asking. Keep seeking. Keep knocking.

The promise is for you. Peter declared on the day of Pentecost: "The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call" (Acts 2:39).
